“In my GRANDPA`s room” – a magical place where you can remember the workshops of our grandparents and their carpentry skills. Grandpa from the Valley, because it is about him, named Gheorghe Sichim, was born in 1921 and spent all his adolescence in the great carpentry workshops of Bucharest, where he learned the profession of carpenter, a job he embraced and loved for all his life.
The most beautiful stories about life in interwar Bucharest and about all the pranks made by a teenager who left home for “The Greater Bucharest”, I heard from him! How bandits were tracked by the police in the center of Bucharest, bandits like Florică Florescu or Cățea, and how they were hiding in the shop windows, imitating the mannequins, in order to escape unscathed. About the summer life spent at the North Station or about the life of a shop boy and how he poured a cup of coffee on the dress of a wealthy lady – I heard all these stories from him!
But also the tragic stories of life from the front line of the Second World War, the period he lived in Câmpeni, on the front line, I also learned from him!
He was the happiest man, full of jokes, jokes and snobs, that we, the grandchildren, knew.
