Uphill Grandma, on her name, Maria Dobre, was born in 1926 in the last house from Satul Banului in the Olteanu family. She was the only girl among the three brothers. She was one of the well-known seamstresses of the village and one of the teachers in this field, training dozens of disciples who later became famous tailors. She was a firm and dedicated person who passed well over the communist period, although at the beginning of communism she went through a very difficult period.
She often told us about all the events that took place in Satul Banului, during the Second World War, and about the nights spent in front of the sewing machine by the light of the gas lamp, but also about the harsh winters, when she had to put trays of burnnig hot coal in front of the frosty window to thaw it.
In 1979, she chose to change her faith and became a member of the Adventist cult in Satul Banului, to which she devoted her entire life. From her we have the expressions “coconelu”, “izmenitul”, “tulnicit”.
